==============================================================================
Power Struggle, part of a new generation of multi-player space games is
now a door game available for SysOps. I would say if anything, the wish of
Chris Sherrick (original author of TradeWars) to see more of these type space
games is finally becoming a reality. Stephen Boston, an avid TW fanatic, is
responsible for this creation and many thanks are owed to him for allowing
my part in this project.
The file "POWER.DOC" contained with this package will explain the how
to's of the game, so I will cover strickly set up here. The "POWER.DOC"
file should be kept in the same directory as the "POWER.EXE" file since the
program will use it if a user request instructions.
This software was compiled using the latest LRSG DoorCode for PCBoard.
The current features of our doorcode are as follows...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Line 25 Displays:
Home = DoorCode help screen
End = Return to normal status line
PgUp = User File Comment #1, User File Comment #2
PgDn = User Real Name, Password, Voice Phone Line, Data Phone Line
SysOp "F" Key Functions:
F1 = SysOp status <- Programs utilizing that option.
F2 = Not used <- We'll find a use later.
F3 = Not Used <- Coming soon.
F4 = Page Bell (On/Off) <- Toggle Page Bell (Door only)
F5 = Shell function <- Very Limited depending on RAM Space.
F6 = Not Used <- Coming soon.
F7 = Not Used <- Coming soon.
F8 = Return User to BBS <- Log user off door IMMEDIATELY!
F9 = Screen Display (On/Off) <- Toggle "Local" display (Door only)
F10 = SysOp Chat Mode <- Inactive during Sysop page by user.
Misc. Keys:
Esc. Key = Exit SysOp Chat Mode.
Space Bar = Answer SysOp Page during User page mode.
(Chat mode now features word wrap)
Stacked Commands:
Commands can be stacked up on a single line by using either a "space" or
a " ; " to separate the commands.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
LRSG DoorCode is a product of the "Limited Release Software Group" and is
NOT available for use at this time by anyone outside of the group. Inquiries
on the LRSG DoorCode can be made either through Rick Greer (that's me) at
"The Micromart BBS" .. (214) 221-7814 .. 24 Hrs. .. or through Bob Diliberto
of "The Telecomm Network" .. (216) 486-0348 .. 24 Hrs.

Files Included:
POWER.EXE <-- Power Struggle Exe File
PS22INT.EXE <-- PS Initialization File (Run 1st)
POWER.DOC <-- PS Online Instruction File
PS-SYSOP.DOC <-- PS Sysop's Doc (this file)
PSWIN.MSG <-- PS Closing Message
PSWIN.BAK <-- Back-up copy of PSWIN.MSG
POWER.SYS <-- Required SYSTEM file
POWER-1.CFG <-- Sample PS Config File for Node 1
POWER-2.CFG <-- Sample PS Config File for Node 2
BRUN30.EXE <-- Required run-time module
SECTOR.SEQ <-- Provided for Upgrade
(Add this file if you are upgrading
from a previous version and do not
want to Re-Initialize the game.)
Note: When upgrading to a higher version via d/l, the POWER.SYS and *.CFG
files will be provided separately.
==============================================================================
.CFG Files:
C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS <-- Location of DOOR FILE (PCBoard shown)
C:\PCB\GEN\BLT7 <-- Location of Bulletin File (PCBoard)
The Micromart BBS <-- Your BBS Name (Not valid on Demo)
Rick <-- Sysop's first name (not valid on Demo)
Greer <-- Sysop's last name (not valid on Demo)
Line 1 of this file should be changed depending on what BBS version you
have. For Wildcat it should read... C:\WC\CALLINFO.BBS
For RBBS it should read...... C:\RBBS\DORINFO1.DEF (DORINFO2.DEF)
Line 2 of this file should be changed to reflect your BBS systems bulletin
file format. Any extra letters or extensions needed for the graphics version
of the bulletin will be appended to the name automatically. The path and
filename can be changed to whatever you desire, but remember not to make
your filename too long if there is something appended to it for the graphics
version.
==============================================================================
.BAT Files:
ECHO OFF <- Turn screen echo off
D: <- Change to Drive\Directory
CD\PCB\POWER < where files are kept
POWER POWER-1.CFG <- Runs PS on Node 1
C: <- Return to default Drive
CD\PCB <- Directory for BBS node
ECHO ON <- Turn local echo on
BOARD <- Return to BBS
Note: Line 4 of this file is the important one to watch. You must pass
the "config" file to the program on the command line that calls the
program. This will allow proper node/comm port set up. Entering
the "/NETWORK" on line 4 is NOT necessary. This code is currently
being distributed in "single node" and "network" versions.
==============================================================================
This should be a fairly easy door to set up. First, create a directory
to store your files in. (ex. d:\pcb\power) Modify the ".CFG" files to show
the location of your DOOR FILE (PCBOARD.SYS) and the name and location of
your bulletin file. Modify and rename the DOOR-?.BAT files for operation on
your system and copy them to your board's default directory. Next, run the
PS22INT.EXE to create the 4 default data files needed for Power Struggle's
operation.
Your ready to play Power Struggle!
Note: Lines 3, 4, and 5 of the .cfg files MUST NOT be changed if running
the Demo version of the package.
==============================================================================
Beta Release:
Beta/Demo release of version 1.0 of Power Struggle. This version is being
released as a "DEMO" package for the soon to be released ver 1.0 of PS. You
may try out this software on your system until December 1st when the code
will expire itself. Expected release date of ver 1.0 is around 10/1 and will
be for 11.8a systems. The next update will be compatible with PCBoard 12.0
This release is not intended for multi-node systems although it may work.
The last 3 lines of the POWER-1.CFG file MUST remain like they are for the
demo version. Registered owners will have their system/sysop name placed in
their copies.
==============================================================================
Ver 1.0:
A few more colors additions were added along with a change in the blt file
set up. The config for the bulletins is now entered in the ".cfg" files.
This ridded us of an unnecessary file cluttering our drives.
This version is being released in a single, or network version. The
network version requires SHARE.EXE to be loaded via your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
It is recommended that at least 272k be allowed for proper operation of the
software.
==============================================================================
Ver 1.1:
Released for PCBoard 12.0
The version 1.1 demo is not intended for network usage. Usage in a network
environment may cause ill effects and corrupt the data files for PS. The
actual release (versions dated after 10/7) contains a new door code. If you
are updating from a demo or previous version, please note the changes needed
in your ".cfg" files. The path/name to your USERS file was needed to supply
line 25 information and add flexibility to our door code. The "Home" key
will display a help menu for the "F" key functions, the "End" key restores
line 25 back to the normal status screen. Use of the "shell" function "F5"
is not recommended unless you are using at least 280k. The "F4" has not yet
been implemented in this version.
==============================================================================
Ver 1.2:
Minor improvements were made in this version and changes made to improve
delivery time of the program. The extra spaces in the planet name when the
donate command was used have been removed. The sell command at a space dock
was changed to allow Enter to equal maximum load. There is a new file now
needed (SECTOR.SEQ). If you are running the file for the first time, the
initialization program will create that file for you. If you are running a
DEMO copy of the game or upgrading from a previous version and do not want to
reset the game, then you may use the SECTOR.SEQ provided with the package.
The new POWER.SYS file MUST be kept in the directory you run Power Struggle
from and SHOULD NOT be modified.
The NETWORK version had a bug that allowed two players in the same sector
at the same time from different nodes. This creates a problem in the data
files and has now been corrected to give a message saying unable to enter due
to another node's player. This will ONLY happen when there is an active
player on another node. The network version is NOT meant to be a "Battle
between Nodes" type of game, it is meant to be "network" compatible.
==============================================================================
Ver 2.0 update:
Released for PCBoard 12.1, this door now supports the 7,E,1 callers along
with a SysOp page feature, and the allowance of Ground Troup transfers to
be made. The yeild of a Power Planet can now be determined through the use
of the Military Intellegence option. The minimum yeild before allowing new
donations to a Planet has been raised from 1000 to 1500. The Guild's Power
Planet is no longer at a disadvantage, all 3 Power Planets are now equal.
A new utility is now available for the registered owners of Power Struggle
called the Xenon War Utility. This program will only function with the 2.0
version of PS and IS NOT for public distribution or DEMO copies. Registered
owners will be provided with a copy "free" of charge with their 2.0 package.
Many new doorcode features are also available in this release, a list of
those can be found above.
==============================================================================
Ver 2.1 not released.
Ver 2.2 update:
Win Feature:
This routine runs after quitting and checks to see if all three Power
Planets are occupied by the same player. If this is detected it creates and
then displays a file describing how wonderful the player is/was who finally
fulfilled the prophecy! This message shows up whenever anybody leaves the
game. Until somebody else occupies all three Power Planets it brags about
who did it last, even if they no longer control all three Power Planets.
The PSWIN.MSG file must be in the same directory as POWER STRUGGLE. This
has the message that the prophecy is unfulfilled until it happens once. If
the game is re-intialized you can use the PSWIN.BAK file to restore the
message given when exiting the game.
Odd Donates:
If you donate an odd amount of mining or agriculture products you will no
longer have 1 left.
Transfer:
Transfer pickups can now be aborted by hitting enter. A player is no
longer randomly placed in a sector after the three password attempts have
failed.
Moves:
Playing the game costs one move regardless of what is done. However there
is no penalty if all 50 moves are used before exiting.
Ghost ships:
The ghost ship bug has been corrected.
Stacked Commands:
The stacked commands option is now available in this version. Stacked
commands should be limited to the space available on the command line.
New POWER.SYS file:
Due to neccessary changes made in our .SYS file format, a new .SYS file
is REQUIRED to run this version. For updates, new .SYS files will be supplied
for download on request. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this,
but changes were needed to for support of other BBS software.
New PLAYER.DOC file:
Please be sure and use the new player instruction file provided with this
release since several things were either changed or added.
Demo Note: If you have received a DEMO COPY of this version and it has
already expired, please call our system and request a new DEMO
file. (less than 1k to d/l.)
